TSA Building Tour: Limberlost Place

Please note this building tour is now sold out. A waitlist has been opened, and tickets will be released as they become available. If you have a ticket and you are no longer able to attend, please be sure to cancel your ticket so other attendees may join instead.

To kick off our 2025 TSA Building Tour season, we’re excited to be following up on our viral 2023 virtual under-construction tour to explore the now-complete Limberlost Place!

The newest addition to George Brown College’s Waterfront Campus, Limberlost Place is Canada’s first post-secondary mass timber tower, combining sustainable design with architectural ambition. This 10-storey hub is a model for net-zero carbon design meeting the highest level of Toronto Green Standard, with every design move—from the mass timber structure to its high-performance envelope system—reflecting a deep commitment to sustainability.

During our tour, we’ll have the chance to explore multiple spaces throughout the building, including the heart of the building—a dramatic multi-level space known as the Learning Landscape, the CLT feature stairs, the level ten event space, and the double height Breathing Rooms, to discuss the natural ventilation system and solar chimneys. We’ll also venture over the bridge and take in one of the many adaptable classrooms on site as well.

This tour will be led by Moriyama Teshima Architects. You can learn more about our tour guides below.

About the Project: Limberlost Place

Limberlost Place brings a bold new energy to George Brown College’s Waterfront Campus. As Canada’s first post-secondary mass timber tower, it combines sustainable design with architectural ambition. Warm, exposed wood defines the interiors, creating a space that feels both grounded and forward-looking. This 10-storey hub is home to the School of Architectural Technology, the Brookfield Sustainability Institute, fitness centre and a Mary’s Place Childcare Centre, all woven into a dynamic setting designed for learning, collaboration, and community.

At the heart of the building is a dramatic multi-level space known as the Learning Landscape—a terraced forum that doubles as a gathering place and event venue. Classrooms, labs, and meeting areas branch off from this core, offering a range of flexible spaces that support both focused and collaborative work. Throughout the building, floorplates are open and adaptable, making room for a wide variety of uses as programs evolve.

Limberlost Place is a model for net-zero carbon design meeting the highest level of Toronto Green Standard, powered by rooftop solar panels, heated and cooled by deep lake district energy, and ventilated naturally through solar chimneys. Every design move, from the mass timber structure to its high-performance envelope system, reflects a deep commitment to sustainability. More than just a campus building, Limberlost Place is a living lab for the future of low-carbon urban architecture.

About TSA Building Tours

Designed for architects by architects, the TSA Building Tours offer unique behind-the-scenes access to recently completed or under construction buildings across the GTA. Led by the team behind their design, these tours provide an opportunity to hear the stories behind the architecture and learn about the challenges and successes in ideating and realising the vision for the building.

TSA Building Tours are made possible thanks to the generous support of STEIN + REGENCY.
