This section covers the common admission standards adopted by the 10 provincial associations of architects and the Northwest Territories Association of Architects, including the three Es: education, experience, and examination. We’ll also explore how these components overlap to benefit students and interns, and the role of the Examination for Architects in Canada (ExAC) and the Architect Registration Examination (ARE).

Chapter 1.6: Organization of the Profession in Canada
This section traces the historical development of the architectural profession in Canada, beginning in the 19th century. We’ll explore the emergence of architectural societies in response to technological and societal changes, the need for regulation, and the promotion of professional competence. We’ll discuss the formation of the first architectural societies in Europe and Canada, the establishment of provincial associations, and the creation of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
