North York Community House | Youth Architects Summer Program

The Youth Architects Program is a free summer community leadership and architectural program where youth (ages 13 – 25), can learn about the revitalization of Lawrence Heights, reimagine communities through the design of public spaces, and build architectural design skills.

During weekly sessions, youth participants learn how to apply architectural skills, participatory design practices, and community development principles to centre the needs and dreams of residents in the development of their designs. Youth participants get the opportunity to build connections while being mentored by Architects, STEAM (Science, Technology, Arts, Mathematics) professionals, and resident leaders to spark their imaginations and broaden their own possibilities and futures. The program culminates with a community event to showcase their final designs, engage residents and stakeholders, and highlight community resources, opportunities, and educational pathways.

They believe everyone is an architect and that we all have the power to design our lives and our communities. Through innovation and collaboration, we can break barriers and build communities where all belong and thrive.
