TSA Technical Series: Understanding Soil and Groundwater Conditions in the GTA
Whether it’s a residential tower, a commercial plaza, or a new industrial facility, every development project is shaped—quite literally—by the ground beneath it. So how well do you really know what lies below?
Join us for this TSA Technical Lecture with Brett Thorner, Director of the Geoscience Sector at MTE Consultants Inc., as we explore the fundamentals of geotechnical and hydrogeological engineering, with a special focus on soil and groundwater conditions across the Greater Toronto Area. This session will cover:
- The common soil types and subsurface conditions found throughout the GTA.
- How water table levels and groundwater flow can influence design decisions.
- Why understanding the ground is critical to early-stage planning and risk mitigation.
- Real-world examples of how soil and groundwater conditions impact residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
This is a great opportunity to brush up on your geotechnical fundamentals, whether you are new to the GTA, starting off your career, or looking for a quick refresher on all things soil.
