TSA Technical Series: Maintaining your Envelope’s Insurance Coverage
Water ingress has long been one of the major sources of claims against Canadian architects. In the 1990s—in no small part as a response to B.C.’s “Leaky Condo” crisis and the significant insurance losses and claims that followed—many insurance providers, including Ontario’s Pro-Demnity Insurance Company, established a set of technical requirements that need to be followed to secure coverage for professional liability claims related to water ingress. Understanding and following these technical requirements is critical to protecting your practice.
Join us and Stephanie Martin of MTE Consultants and the Building Science Association of Ontario (BSAO) for an overview of Pro-Demnity’s recently-updated technical requirements for exterior above-grade wall systems, specifically looking at Window Wall systems and Precast Concrete exterior wall systems, and a set of new provisions addressing Insulated Metal Panels (IMPs). We’ll break down what the updated requirements mean for your practice, how they impact project risk, and what you need to know to stay compliant.
Attendees to this session will gain an understanding of:
- Exclusion 21 in the Pro-Demnity policy and the potential consequences of not adhering to the requirements for coverage for water ingress claims.
- How to use the recently updated Technical Requirement Schedule.
- The role an Independent Building Envelope Consultant (IBEC) can play in helping you meet these coverage requirements.
