TSA Technical Series: Designing Smart Enclosures

What is top of mind for you when you think of building better? Is it making improvements to energy efficiency or indoor environmental quality? Or lowering the building’s embodied carbon? What about making them built to last? As we become more aware of the impacts of our buildings—on our health, our planet, and on others–what “building better” means has become more nuanced and complex. But building better does not mean a more difficult process or assembly—just a smarter one that is shaped by our understanding of building science principles and technologies, and the modern materials that can do the heavy lifting for us.

Join us for this 1.5-hour virtual presentation with Aaron Waldt of 475 High Performance Building Supply where we’ll discuss how we can build better, more durable enclosures using the products available to us in Ontario. Aaron will start by reviewing the importance of building airtightness and how we can apply Passive House principles to all building types. We will then explore different components of the building envelope and how they work together to create a reliable system that optimizes drying, using case studies of the Pro Clima Membrane and Tape System and the INTELLO PLUS Intelligent Vapour Control Layer to understand the smart enclosure technology used in various construction types, from 2x framing to historic masonry.
