Someone Lives Here: Screening and Panel Discussion
On January 31, join in on a screening of the award-winning documentary Someone Lives Here — the story of one man’s inspiring response to Toronto’s housing crisis. This special Canadian Film Forum event is presented by Innis College, the Cinema Studies Institute, and the Urban Studies Program.
A panel discussion will follow the screening with documentary subject Khaleel Seivwright and urban studies instructor Alana Jones.
Someone Lives Here is the modern-day David-and-Goliath story of carpenter Khaleel Seivwright, who builds small, life-saving shelters for unhoused people living outside in Toronto during the winter of the pandemic. His actions attract international attention, but also staunch opposition from city officials. Narrated by Taka, a woman living in one of Khaleel’s tiny shelters in Toronto’s Alexandra Park, Someone Lives Here captures an important chapter in the battle for the soul of a city.
