CTBUH Canada Presents: Wind Engineering for Tall Buildings

The CTBUH Canada Chapter is excited to announce its next event – a presentation on wind engineering for tall buildings titled “Optimizing the serviceability performance of tall buildings through aerodynamic shaping and implementation of damping systems” given by wind expert Bujar Morava from RWDI.

The presentation runs from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Following the tour there is a hosted networking session at 3 Brewers – Yonge and Dundas from 6 pm to 9 pm.

 

CTBUH Canada | Presentation – Optimizing the serviceability performance of tall buildings through aerodynamic shaping and implementation of damping systems

Today’s iconic tall buildings and structures seek to make a bold statement and are driven by the unique economics of global metropolitan cities that are desirable places of wealth, culture, and entertainment. Applying conventional design approaches to these structures and buildings can overlook important structural behavior as it pertains to both serviceability and strength. Traditional or prescriptive design criteria are found to be inadequate in a number of cases and blind adherence puts at risk the longer-term serviceability performance of a building and its envelope.

In this presentation, several tall and slender building projects in New York City and Toronto that were wind-engineered by RWDI will be examined in the context of the mitigation measures considered to achieve the desired serviceability performance targets. Aerodynamic shaping, structural dynamic optimization, and implementation of supplemental damping systems will be among the mitigation measures that will be discussed and illustrated in detail.

Note that CTBUH will be providing certificates of completion for attendees via email after the event.
