Community Climate Conference 2025

The 2025 Community Climate Conference is hosted by AfriCanada Economic Development and Culture and is part of a citywide initiative under the City of Toronto’s TransformTO program, bringing residents, local leaders, and stakeholders together to co-create a cleaner, low-carbon future. This year’s conference has a theme of ‘Building a Greener, Resilient Toronto Together,’ and is open to everyone, and welcomes community residents, students, small business owners, environmental advocates, housing providers, urban planners, and more.

Hosted by a 2024 Neighborhood Climate Action Champion, this gathering is your opportunity to learn, connect, and act on climate solutions that directly impact our community — from household upgrades to neighborhood-wide sustainability strategies. It will include:

  • Insightful discussions on climate change science and its local impacts
  • Practical tips for reducing emissions in your home and community
  • Workshops on energy efficiency, transportation, and waste reduction
  • Networking opportunities with local organizations and climate leaders
  • Interactive feedback sessions as part of Toronto’s TransformTO Public Consultation

As part of this year’s climate conference itinerary, there will also be a group visit to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) Head Office, located at 5 Shoreham Drive, North York. This visit will provide participants with the opportunity to engage directly with climate experts, observe practical climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives, learn about TRCA’s Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP), and explore how these initiatives can be replicated within our local communities.

This year’s topics will cover:

  • Switching from gas to electric heat pumps
  • Boosting insulation and energy efficiency
  • Generating renewable energy (solar)
  • Transitioning to electric vehicles and clean transport
  • Reducing household, composting, and community waste
  • Active transportation: cycling, walking, public transit
