Call for Demonstration Projects: Green Construction through Wood

Natural Resources Canada’s Green Construction Through Wood (GCWood) program has launched its 2026 Call for Proposals for demonstration projects. The program seeks submissions from shovel-ready and advanced-stage multi-unit residential projects that can accelerate housing delivery and showcase modern wood construction.

This opportunity is part of the broader $500M Call for Proposals announced earlier this week by the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, to support transformation across Canada’s forest sector.

The demonstration stream focuses on multi-unit and mixed-use residential buildings, supporting design, approval, and construction activities. Projects may receive up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $5 million per project, and must be at an advanced stage of design or permitting — or ready to proceed to construction.

Funding priorities include projects that:

  • Deliver high volumes of residential units
  • Deploy Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) for faster, more efficient building
  • Feature scalable and replicable designs
  • Incorporate Canadian-manufactured wood and advanced bio-based products
  • Support information sharing to accelerate broader adoption

The call for proposals runs February 25 to April 27, 2026 (3 p.m. EST), with submissions made through NRCan’s online portal. Information webinars will be held in both English and French to provide an overview of the program objectives, application process, and evaluation considerations:
