Call for Volunteers: TSA Pride Task Group - Mapping Toronto’s Queer Spaces

Interested in the study and evolution of Toronto’s 2SLGBTQIA+ spaces? Want to lend a hand in the behind-the-scenes research that informs our yearly booth at the Pride Street Fair? Then come join us as a member of our 2026 Pride Task Group as we undertake the next step of our research on Toronto’s Queer Spaces!

The TSA’s Pride Initiatives not only seek to make a more welcoming industry for all, but also to advance important research into Toronto’s 2SLGBTQIA+ spaces and their spatial and urban characteristics. Building on the work of past exhibitions, and expanding on our existing Toronto Queer Spaces Database, the TSA Pride Task Group will be engaging on a temporal and spatial mapping exercise of Toronto’s queer spaces. Our goal is to produce a series of maps that both temporally and geographically capture the evolution of 2SLGBTQIA+ spaces of our city. The work produced by the task group will be the base of our 2026 exhibition at the Toronto Pride Street Fair.

Task Group members will also be part of the volunteer team sharing the work during the 2026 Toronto Pride Street Fair, sharing the stories and findings with the general public.

Task Group members are reliable team players and rigorous researchers, excited to help better document our city’s queer spaces and their heritage. They are self-driven but collaborative and open to working with others to help contribute to a shared vision and a larger project. Previous experience with mapping or research on Toronto’s diverse built heritage, whether in a professional or academic setting, is a plus but not required. And familiarity with the TSA’s Pride programming is always a bonus!

What to expect?

The Task Group will work with TSA Initiative Leads and staff to create and host our 2026 Pride Toronto Street Fair booth, including supporting the next step in our Queer Spaces research. Selected members will commit to participating in the group from onboarding to the next Pride Toronto festival (approx. November 2025 – June 2026). The Task Group will host a kick off meeting before the end of the year and will hold regular check-in meetings starting in early 2026. The meetings will be online (dates to be agreed upon by the group) and members are expected to work between the meetings to develop assigned tasks (total of approx. 5-10 hours per month, potential for increase April-June as Pride approaches). Availability for the Pride Street Fair (weekend in late June 2026) is expected.

Tasks will include supporting the research and preparation of the materials for our booth, which has a focus this year on the spatial and temporal distribution of the City’s queer spaces, as well as helping out on-site during the 2026 Pride Toronto Street Fair.
