ADFF Toronto 2025: Miralles with Panel Discussion

Arancha González Bernardo (B.Sc.Arch, M.Arch: ETSAC, A Coruña, Spain; BCIN) is a Spanish architect and co-founder of Odami, an architectural and design firm based out of Toronto, Canada.

Founded in 2018, the studio focuses on residential and commercial projects, supplemented with material experimentation and furniture and object design. Odami’s work has been published internationally, including Dezeen, Frame, Azure, Thisispaper, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, and several others.

Prior to co-founding Odami, Arancha worked in offices in Spain, Austria, and Canada, collaborating on projects ranging from residential to large-scale corporate and commercial, in cities across Europe and North America.  Arancha completed her studies in Architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in La Coruña, Spain, with a specialty in Theory and Design.

In addition to Odami, Arancha is a Sessional Lecturer at the School of Interior Design of the Toronto Metropolitan University.

Developed over many years of practice, Maria is known for her strong coordination skills, pragmatism and thorough understanding of what it takes to get an idea built. She has successfully led many of the studio’s residential and retail projects, bringing together consultants, specialists, trades and builders to achieve design solutions that are on time and on budget. Always customer-oriented, Maria ensures clients are actively engaged and informed every step of the way, ensuring our final design is responsive to their unique needs and circumstance.

Maria complements her professional experience with a commitment to education and community. Maria is a Past Chair of the Toronto Society of Architects and an active member in its Executive. She is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream at the University of Toronto’s John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses.

Elizabeth Pagliacolo is the Editor in Chief at Azure magazine. She is a National Magazine Award–winning writer and editor, and has reported on design fairs around the world, covered prominent architecture projects, including Odile Decq’s restaurant at the Paris Opera Garnier and Snøhetta’s entrance pavilion for the 9/11 Museum in New York, and delved into new trends and technologies, from the emergence of LEDs to the evolution of sustainable concrete. She has also interviewed the leading lights of modern architecture and design, such as Patricia Urquiola, Lawrence Scarpa and Walter Hood, and participated on design juries in Toronto and New York. From 2016 to 2017, she was the Director of Programming for EDIT: Expo for Design, Innovation and Technology, a 10-day festival produced by the Design Exchange, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme. At Azure, she leads the editorial team in conceptualizing and producing six print issues a year, helps organize the AZ Awards, and guides the content programming of Human/Nature, AZURE’s climate conference inaugurated in 2024.
