TSA Brings Back Three Popular Events for Doors Open Toronto 2024

MAY 1, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Toronto Society of Architects (TSA) is excited to announce the return of their three popular in-person programs—as well as the addition of a new family program—as part of this year’s Doors Open Toronto.

An annual event organised by the City of Toronto in partnership with the wider community, Doors Open Toronto provides rare public access for one weekend only to architecturally and culturally significant buildings across the city. The free weekend-long celebration of architecture and public space is taking place on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, and will feature more than 150 sites for exploration, walking tours, and more.

As part of Doors Open weekend, the TSA has organised two special programs reflecting on this year’s theme “Hidden Histories,” including a public panel discussion taking place at Evergreen Brick Works on the layered process of city building and two different one-hour walking tours: Stories of St. Lawrence and Stories of the Church and Wellesley Village

In addition, this year will once again see the return of Open Studio, a popular initiative providing behind-the-scenes access to architecture studios across the city. This year’s edition counts the participation of 14 studios in 11 different locations, as well as a number of related sites including the Ontario Association of Architects Headquarters, and the schools of architecture at the University of Toronto and Toronto Metropolitan University.

New this year is TSA Paper City, a family-friendly activity happening at the Ontario Association of Architects Headquarters that invites kids and their families to be the architects, city planners, and builders of a paper metropolis! They’ll design and create their own folded structures to help build together a large community art piece.

You can find more information about these programs, including specific times and locations, on the TSA website. All Doors Open Toronto programming is free of charge, but tours and the panel discussion have limited spots and RSVPs are required.
