Canadian Wood Council Webinar: Building Better with Prefabricated Wood Construction
How do we move from simply panelizing buildings to truly designing for prefabrication?
This webinar will explore how prefabricated light wood-frame construction can support more efficient and scalable housing delivery. From early design and BIM coordination to fabrication, building-envelope integration, logistics, and erection, the discussion will highlight practical lessons for designing buildings around the realities of off-site manufacturing and on-site assembly. Drawing on experience across a range of projects, the speakers will also examine how repeatable grids, assemblies, details, and coordinated workflows can create adaptable building platforms that improve efficiency while maintaining flexibility across different projects.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify key design considerations for successful panelized light wood-frame construction including detailing of connections and higher levels of factory completion.
- Recognize strategies for setting up construction success including moisture management, tolerances, constructability reviews, consideration of site constraints and logistics, and QA/QC protocols.
- Understand how to balance early trade involvement with competitive procurement and execute multidisciplinary coordination to support efficient prefabrication and construction.
- Apply principles of standardization and repeatability to create adaptable, scalable approaches to wood-frame housing delivery that allow for architectural flexibility and applying lessons learned.
