OALA Ground Magazine: Call for Submissions

Ground: Landscape Architect Quarterly, is published by the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA) and provides an open forum for the exchange of ideas and information related to the profession of landscape architecture.

Ground Magazine has opened a call for submissions for Ground 71, with a theme of Fear: an opportunity to explore the pressures, anxieties, and sleepless nights that come with being a landscape professional. Maybe it’s the looming impact of climate change, economic uncertainty, shifts in the profession, or threats to the landscapes you hold dear. But fear isn’t only something to endure—it can also inspire action. How do you use your skills to address fears, to move past them and build confidence with your clients or communities?

If you have a story about this, they want to hear it! (No submissions about projects you personally worked on will be accepted, unless it was pro bono, or for academic purposes). And contributing counts toward CE credits!

They’re looking for:

  • Feature stories (1,200–1,500 words, or visually focused with photographs or illustrations)
  • Up Front pieces (400–800 words, anything landscape-adjacent)
  • Artifact ideas (200 words, centered on an image or two)
  • Other feature ideas, even if they don’t fit the theme!

Deadline to submit is August 5, 2025.
