Toronto’s elevated Gardiner Expressway cuts across the full length of the city, acting as both a physical and psychological barrier at grade between the city’s core and its blossoming waterfront.

Waterfront ReConnect is a collaboration between the Bentway, the City of Toronto, the Waterfront Business Improvement Area, and the Toronto Downtown West Business Improvement Area that explores the potential for this street-level obstacle to be reimagined as a vital point of connection.

Following a national Call for Expressions of Interest, six (6) teams of architects and artists from across Canada have been selected to propose innovative improvements that enhance the quality of space and public experience under the Gardiner Expressway. Two (2) designs will be selected and installed along Lake Shore Boulevard at the intersections of York and Simcoe Streets.

Join us via Zoom on Monday, January 10 at 4:30pm as the six shortlisted teams unveil their design proposals for the York and Simcoe Street intersections.
