Updates to Ontario Building Code Supplementrary Standard SB-12

Seminar Description
The Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is working to finalize the next version of the Supplementary Standard SB-12 (2017) and has published a draft version. The central thrust of this SB-12 update is for a 15% greater building energy efficiency than currently required for new homes. In this talk we’ll cover the key changes proposed which include; fewer packages, crediting envelope air leakage reduction, requires heat recovery in ventilation systems and will favour continuous insulation as effective assembly R-values are listed.

Speaker Bio
Greg Labbé, BlueGreen Consulting Group – Greg graduated from Trent University in Environmental Science. After working as an industrial chemist, he turned his attention to low-income weatherization in 1999, when he joined GreenSaver. Greg was instrumental in transforming GreenSaver from a rusty two panel van operation in a Riverdale semi to a thriving 7 cube van operation, with spray foam capability and over 20 energy advisors in its current location in Etobicoke. Greg managed the entire operation through lean financial years all the while growing though two NRCan program cancellations and moving twice to accommodate growth.

Greg was trained as a trainer by NRCan for the ecoEnergy program, successfully completed certifications from HRAI for Heat Loss Heat Gain as well as Duct Design, was trained and CUFCA approved as spray foam applicator, is a certified Thermographer by Snell Canada Inc, completed the CMHC course on Indoor Air Quality and is a CET Associate.

Greg enjoys community outreach programs by guest lecturing at local colleges and universities. He also presented at the 2011 and 2012 Home Builder & Renovator, he also presented in Baltimore MD at the 2012 Affordable Comfort Conference. He contributes regularly to Sustainable Builder and Home Energy Magazine and teaches a lab part-time at Humber College. He is also one of OHBA’s Institute of Building Excellence trainer.
