The Go Roof / Union Station Trainshed Project
The GO Roof project is a major component of the Union Station renewal project. The central portion of the early 20th-century, Beaux-Arts-style trainshed has been replaced by a 5,000sm multi-layered atrium glass roof. This glass jewel box, supported by sculptural columns, floats over the tracks providing daylight at platform level and a visual connection from the station to the waterfront. Delicate curtains of clear glass louvers are suspended from the roof on a light network of steel tubes and cables to repel penetration by rain and snow while facilitating natural ventilation.
Up Express – Union Station
As the downtown terminus of the new direct air rail link from Pearson International Airport, the Up Express Union Station hub contains an enclosed platform, waiting lounges, retail, restaurant and support facilities. The train level facilities extend over 1,200sm with and additional 600sm mezzanine lounge space overlooking the platform. A wood ceiling and ribs are supported by sculptural concrete columns, with continuous skylight bands providing natural illumination. These wood elements link through to the existing Skywalk to and from Union Station creating a floating canopy over the Up Express entrance.
All guests are invited to join us for apres-tour dinner and drinks at the CIBC UPSTAIRS lounge featuring Mill St. Brewery at Union Station (please RSVP when you reserve your ticket; please note – cost of food/beverage is not included in the ticket price).
The tour will be presented by:
Manuela Istrate – Metrolinx (Project Manager in previous role with Zeidler Partnership)
Ricky Mugford – Metrolinx (Interior Design in previous role with Zeidler Partnership)
Rob Eley – Partner, Zeidler
Vaidila Banelis – Senior Partner, Zeidler
