OAA Con-Ed | Human Rights in the Workplace

This session will provide an overview of the Ontario Human Rights Code and the responsibilities of organizations, managers, and employees to foster a respectful work environment and address issues appropriately when they occur. Participants will learn about violations of the Code, the human rights protected grounds, as well as options for resolving issues when they do occur.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the violations of the Ontario Human Rights Code
2. Discuss the legal rights of employees to a harassment- and discrimination-free workplace
3. Discuss the legal responsibilities of the organization and those in leadership positions to promote human rights in the workplace
and to address issues when they arise, and
4. List the options for resolving issues when they do occur.
Speaker:
Tana Turner is owner and principal consultant of Turner Consulting Group. She is a researcher, consultant, and advocate for social justice and systems change and has worked in the field of equity, diversity, and inclusion for more than 30 years. In her current role as a consultant, she helps organizations assess their equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts and supports their ability to hire a more diverse workforce, create a more inclusive working environment, and deliver services that meet the needs of a diverse client population.
