Presented by Ryerson University’s Centre for Urban Research and Land Development (CUR)

The need for enhanced housing affordability is a paramount concern throughout the GTA. The GTA’s housing affordability challenges will have adverse effects on the region’s economic growth prospects.

Many municipal candidates and others have put forward proposals for providing more affordable housing. While these programs are laudable, CUR will be looking beyond Band-Aid solutions to address the root causes of the affordability quandary and create long-term solutions.

Topics covered:
• Dimensions of housing affordability – past, current and future
• Why housing prices and rents are so high
• Assessment of recent policy proposals by aspiring municipal candidates
• Fundamental approaches for significantly improving housing affordability
