Upcoming Events

In response to the COVID-19 social distancing rules and the cancellation of all summer programming at New College, International Programs Office (NCIPO), we have transitioned our Daniels Bootcamp to an online program. Participants will leave the program understanding the fundamentals of architectural design, architectural education, and related career paths.

Who?
This program is designed for late high school (grades 11 and 12) and undergraduate participants of all disciplines who are interested in architecture. This program is open to all participants, including English-speaking international students.

Why?
For anyone interested in a future career in design, the Daniels Design Career Discovery Bootcamp is a great opportunity to experience the intensive studio culture that characterizes most architecture programs. The bootcamp programs allow participants to build up collections of drawings and models that will complement admissions portfolios.

The program will also include:
—Lectures by practicing architects and faculty.
—Virtual field trips to local buildings and professional offices.
—One-on-one instruction and feedback.
—Training in representation, model-building, and related skills.
—Periodic reviews where participants present their work to practicing architects and other design professionals.

Where?
This program will be hosted online through a variety of platforms including Zoom web conferencing, Microsoft Teams, and other related software.

Dates and Times
Session 1: Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 24, 2020
Session 2: Monday, July 27, to Friday, August 21, 2020

The program runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Participants are welcome to continue working online during the break.

Team

Jeannie Kim is currently the Director of the Daniels Faculty’s Honours, Bachelor of Arts, Architectural Studies program. She holds degrees in architecture from Harvard University and Princeton University and is currently completing her Ph.D. in the history and theory of architecture at Princeton University. Read More

Taylor Gould grew up in Winnipeg where she completed the Environmental Design Program at the University of Manitoba with a primary focus on restoring the conversation between the drawn and built realms. After completing her first degree and gaining work experience at Winnipeg’s Unit 7 Architecture, she entered the Masters program at the University of Toronto’s John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. A love of hands-on construction and an interest in policy inform her practice: she worked as a supervisor and trainer in the Daniels wood shop, and while researching her thesis became interested in how architects’ involvement in redefining code and regulations could improve the quality and reduce the environmental impact of suburban development. After completing her degree in 2019, she joined PLANT Architect Inc. full-time as an architectural designer.

She earned her Student Pilot Permit (PSTAR) and has completed a series of cycle touring trips within Canada.
