From climate action to high school outreach, volunteer positions currently available are noted below, including information regarding time commitment, the application process and more!

Still have questions about these positions or volunteering for the TSA in general? Drop in for a virtual coffee and ask members of the TSA team during one of our info-sessions (click on the times below to RSVP):

Playlist Volunteer

Passionate about film and the built environment? Then come join us as part of our Film Committee! The TSA is currently looking for volunteers to help shape our TSA Playlists, a monthly curated selection of free online films touching upon issues of architecture, the built environment and design. Film volunteers are enthusiastic film lovers and highly collaborative, working together to help shape themes and selections. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to engage in other film-related programming throughout the year.

What to expect?

Playlist volunteers are expected to attend monthly virtual meetings of the Film Committee throughout 2021, as well as screen possible selections prior to those meetings (approximately 4-6 hours of film watching a month). Meetings are usually held during lunch time and last up to 1 hour, and a slack channel is provided for collaboration in-between meetings.

How to apply?

Send us an email to tsa@torontosocietyofarchitects.ca with your name, contact information and a short paragraph telling us about yourself and why you would like to volunteer for this initiative. Applications are due on April 6, 2021 by 11:59 PM.

Climate Action Task Group

Continuing our work on Climate Action and building on the findings of the 2020 Climate Action Questionnaire, the TSA is looking for knowledgeable, down-to-earth and highly collaborative individuals to form a Climate Action Task Group. Working closely with the TSA Chair, Executive and Programming Director, the Climate Action Task Group will be responsible for reviewing the work done to date by the Society and provide recommendations to the Executive on possible next steps that can shape short and long term initiatives and resources. We are looking for representation of small, medium and large practices, as well as a variety of design professionals, not just architects.

What to expect?

Members of the Climate Action Task Group are expected to attend monthly meetings (approximately 1-1.5 hour in length) starting in April 2021 and continuing until the TSA Executive’s Annual Planning meeting in August, where the recommendations of the group will be considered. Meetings will be held virtually via zoom.

How to apply?

Send us an email to tsa@torontosocietyofarchitects.ca with your name, contact information, resume and a short paragraph telling us about yourself and why you would like to volunteer for the Climate Action Task Group. Applications are due on April 6, 2021 by 11:59 PM.

K-12 Outreach Task Group

Looking to expand our existing K-12 outreach activities and resources in 2021/2022, the TSA is seeking to form a High School Outreach Task Group to provide strategic short and long-term recommendations that can translate into actionable items over the next several months. The High School Outreach Task Group will work closely with members of the TSA Executive and Programming Director to review the work done to date and provide recommendations informed by precedents, past experiences and Ontario’s curricular requirements.

What to expect?

Members of the High School Outreach Task Group are expected to attend monthly meetings (approximately 1-1.5 hour in length) starting in April 2021 and continuing until the TSA Executive’s Annual Planning meeting in August (TBC) where the recommendations will be considered. Meetings will be held virtually via zoom and held after work hours. Members are expected to spend time outside the meetings researching and familiarizing themselves with precedents and Ontario’s curricular requirements.

How to apply?

Send us an email to tsa@torontosocietyofarchitects.ca with your name, contact information, and a short paragraph telling us about yourself and why you would like to volunteer for the High School Outreach Task Group. We welcome applications from all members, including parents, current students, recent graduates, and those with teaching experience in K-12 levels who are willing to contribute their experiences to the committee. Being an architect is not a requirement! Applications are due on April 6, 2021 by 11:59 PM.
